Excerpts from The People’s Opera House Open Source Manual
The People’s Opera House Project (TPOH) is a vehicle for creating community-based, operatically enhanced immersive plays in three acts.
The goal of this project is to support communities in going from concept to creation in as little as six weeks.
TPOH is a scalable project that can be created by as few as two people and grow to include anyone who is interested.
The design of TOPH is to generate social inquiries where dialogs on hot button topics within a community flow freely with levity and play.
The design of TOPH is to generate social inquiries in an environment where dialogs on hot button topics within a community flow freely with levity and play. Subject matter for TOPH can derive organically from looming community decisions, the political climate, social and ethical debates.
The ideal subject is one that has charged emotions with at least two different viewpoints. All viewpoints will be represented in TPOH.
The goal within the immersive plays is to make dialog and debate on these hot topics as benign and cool as discussing one’s favorite sports team; where one can easily give up their own viewpoint and agree to disagree.
Ideal participants are people that have always been interested in creating public art or performance and have been stopped due to lack of experience or opportunity.
TPOH is a framework to support the awakening of the artist within everyone.
The structure of the project will build confidence and skills required to be fully self-expressed during a public performance.
